Private bus employees beat up pickup van driver in Alappuzha; video of attack comes to light

Alappuzha: A pickup van driver was assaulted by a group of private bus employees at Thuravoor here. Vinod, a native of Kollam, was brutally beaten up by private bus employees in the middle of Thuravoor signal junction on Monday around 6 am.

Vinod complained that the bus employees beat him up for no reason. The pickup van was coming from Ernakulam to Alappuzha. The bus parked in front of the van while waiting for the signal and opened the door of the pickup without any indication. The driver was dragged out into the middle of the road and beaten up. Vinod was rescued by other passengers.

Vinod said that during the attack, Rs 13,000 kept in his pocket fell on the road and was stolen by the bus employees. The video of the attack has come to light. According to Vinod, a complaint has been lodged with the Kuthiyathode police but no case has been registered.

He added that he did nothing provocative while driving and did not know what was the reason for the attack. The police said they would take further action after investigating the incident.
