Thiruvananthapuram: The meeting of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) leadership on Wednesday suggested that leaders should refrain from creating unnecessary controversies that could weaken the party in state. Further, controversies surrounding Shashi Tharoor's Kerala tour were cited as an example of party leadership failing to take necessary action on time.
The party does not benefit from leaders distancing themself from Tharoor over his tour. It is not right to boycott his programmes. The party members should realise that Tharoor is a part of Congress. The absence of party leaders from attending events hosting Tharoor also created unwanted controversies, the meeting noted.
Meanwhile, Tharoor and TN Prathapan were criticized for expressing their intention of not contesting the next Lok Sabha polls. Further, the meeting also agreed that there is no truth in controversies surrounding the utilisation of KPCC funds.
In addition, KPCC reorganisation was also a topic of discussion, with leaders suggesting that office bearers should be handed a tenure of 10 years instead of 5 years.
