Kalpetta: A one-and-a-half-year-old female tiger cub that posed a threat at Thovarimala in Wayanad was captured by the forest department. The big cat was caught on Monday in a cage placed in an estate here.

The tigress has been translocated to an animal hospice in Sulthan Bathery. Following a medical examination under a veterinary surgeon, the tigress will be released into the dense forest.

The officials of the forest department had installed the cage in the Thovarimala estate following the villagers' complaint about the cub's presence in human-inhabited areas.
