Female staff at Malabar Medical College tests COVID-19 positive; 50 under quarantine
Kozhikode: A pregnant female staff at Malabar Medical College in Ulliyeri tested positive for COVID-19. Following this, 50 persons including hospital workers, who were in contact with the female staff, entered quarantine.
The female staff is a native of Karumala in Balussery. She was working in the pharmacy store at the hospital. Her result came out positive after 80 people in the hospital underwent coronavirus tests on Saturday. All the others tested negative.
Though her source was not identified, it is learned that she contracted the virus from outside. Two wards at the hospital were converted into observation wards following the incident. Authorities stated that the staff testing COVID-19 positive will not affect the functioning of the hospital. Tests will be held in the coming days also, they added.
Following the incident, observation has been intensified in Karumala and Unnikulam areas. It is learned that the female staff has a long list of contacts.
She and her husband had visited a temple in their area the other day. Her family members are MGNREGA workers.
All those who were in contact with the woman or her family have been directed to undergo quarantine.
