Although there were attempts to implement Fastag twice earlier, it had to be postponed.

Thrissur: FASTags will be made compulsory in all toll plazas in the country from Wednesday, though there are concerns about it causing traffic blocks. In Kerala, FASTag will be implemented from 10 in the morning across various toll plazas including Paliyekkara toll plaza.

There are 12 booths in Paliyekkara toll plaza. As of now, 6 booths are reserved for vehicles without fastag. This will be brought down to two by Wednesday evening. Only 40 percent of the vehicles in Kerala have entered the FASTag system. Only two booths in the plaza are reserved for the vast majority of the vehicles that have not adhered to FASTag.

Although there were attempts to implement FASTag twice earlier, it had to be postponed. It was announced to be implemented last December. But the lack of willingness to adhere to electronic mode of toll collection created problems.
