Kasaragod: The special investigation team has recorded the arrest of MC Kamaruddin MLA in 49 more cases in connection with the Fashion Gold deposit scam. With this, the total number of cases in which his arrest has been recorded reached 63.

The arrest was recorded in 3 cases initially. 11 more cases were added following this. The scam took place in Khamar Fashion Gold, Fashion Gold International, Fashion Gold in Payyannur and Noojum Gold International in Payyannur. 124 cases were registered in connection with this.

Out of the total number of cases, 23 cases were filed in Kasaragod Town Police station, 82 in Chandera station, 18 in Payyannur station and 1 in Kannur Town station. In this, MC Kamaruddin has been listed as accused in 82 cases. Pookoya Thangal’s son, Hisham, is also an accused in many cases. The cases have been divided among the officers of the SIT.

The arrests have been made by Thrissur AR Battalion commandant Navneet Sharma, Kasaragod ASP N Vivek Kumar, Kannur crime branch DySP AV Pradeep, Kasaragod crime branch DySP Madhusudhanan Nair, PK Sudhakaran. M Sunilkumar is in charge of the investigation in Payyannur.

The investigation team believes that the prime accused, Pookoya Thangal, has escaped to Karnataka. His location has not been traced until now as his phone is switched off.

Meanwhile. Hosdurg First Class Judicial Magistrate court dismissed the bail plea of MC Kamaruddin MLA in 3 cases.

The court said that granting bail will affect the investigation as so many cases have been registered against him. MC Kamaruddin is someone with significant clout in the district. The court also said that the hospital documents produced by MC Kamaruddin to prove he is a diabetic patient was an old one.

Kamaruddin’s advocate, CK Sreedharan, said they will apply for bail in 60 more cases in Hosdurg First Class Judicial Magistrate court. If these pleas are dismissed as well, then they will approach the High Court for all cases at once.
