Farming to be taken up on 500 acres near Aranmula Puncha
Pathanamthitta: Efforts to remove the hurdles for paddy farming in Aranmula will continue, the monitoring committee has decided. A meeting of the committee chaired by Veena George MLA -- held on the direction of Agriculture Minister V S Sunilkumar -- took the decision.
Paddy farming will be taken up on 500 acres of land at Arattupuzha, Malakkaraveli Puncha, Neervilakam, Kattattu Puncha and Kidangannur. The advantage of these places is that the water flow is not obstructed. A team from the district will meet the Agriculture, Revenue and Water Resources ministers with various demands.
The meeting evaluated that the major challenges before them was to remove the hurdles to start farming in Aranmula Puncha. THe intervention of ministers is necessary for this. The only regions which are presently suitable for farming are the area near the Engineering College and Kaippalachal. However, lift irrigation is to be arranged there.
Canals have been destroyed. An amount of Rs 65 lakh is needed to remove soil from canals and water channels, according to the Agriculture Department.
