Farm owner’s death: Relatives allege foul play
Pathanamthitta: In the mysterious death of Mathayi, a farm owner in Kudappana who was found dead in a well after forest department officials took him into custody, his brother Wilson alleged that forest officials conspired his murder and threw him inside the well. He also declared that he is not satisfied with the Crime Branch investigation into Mathayi’s death.
“Autopsy report cites that he was drowned. How was my brother, who was in the custody of forest officials, found dead inside a well. The officials are responsible for it,” stated Wilson.
Meanwhile, Mathayi’s relatives declared that they will not bury his body until he gets justice.
“We are not satisfied with the investigation. Attempts are being made to save the culprits. His family is not ready for a re-post mortem. Hence, we have decided to delay the funeral until justice is served,” said the relatives.
It is alleged that the officials did not issue the post mortem report to the relatives even though the body was released on Friday. The autopsy report also cited Mathayi’s cause of death as drowning. The relatives questioned the authenticity of the autopsy report which is yet to be handed over to them. They alleged that the autopsy report was not issued to them as part of the officials' plan to save the culprits.
“The present investigation into Mathayi’s death only aims to protect the culprits. Officials in-charge are fabricating new stories for this purpose,” alleged his relatives.
Following the death of Mathayi, the forest officials, who are facing allegations, submitted a report in the court claiming that Mathayi committed suicide. Mathayi’s relatives questioned this report and criticised the officials for making such assumptions before post mortem.
