Farm owner’s death in Kudappana: 8 forest dept officials transferred
Pathanamthitta: Following the death of a farm owner Mathayi in Kudappana, who was found in a well after being taken in custody of forest department, 8 officials were transferred. The forest department officials were transferred to other offices within the district.
The action was taken based on the preliminary probe report. Range officer, deputy range officer Rajesh Kumar, section forest officer AK Pradeep Kumar, beat officers N Santhosh, T Anil Kumar and Lakshmi were among the transferred.
Mathayi’s family had alleged foul play by forest department in the case and had raised huge protests. Mathayi’s wife had threatened not to cremate his body if justice was denied and had also threatened to commit suicide.
Mathayi (41), was taken into custody for interrogation by forest officers from his residence in Areekkakavu on Tuesday evening at 4 pm. However, there was no case registered against Mathayi by forest department. After 2 hours, Mathayi’s body was found inside the well of his family residence, which is 7 km away. The forest officers had stated that Mathayi jumped into the well and that locals stopped them from rescuing him.
Mathayi was interrogated alleging that he destroyed the camera that was set up in Kudappana to identify the presence of wild animals and that he dumped farm waste in the forest.
