Idukki: Shyam Kumar, a 32-year-old cop in Santhanpara Police station here has been terminated after a departmental inquiry in the case pertaining to the suicide of a school staffer over his false marriage promise. The CPO was suspended in January.
It was on January 1 that 27-year-old woman Sheeba Angel Rani, alias Swapna, a school counsellor staying at Nallathanni Road was found dead at her residence. She was in a relationship with Shyam Kumar for years. Though the cop was married and has a child, he assured Swapna that he was separated from his wife and that once the divorce procedures are completed, he will marry her. Both Swapna and Shyam Kumar started to live together. However, Swapna realised that Shyam Kumar was cheating on her by maintaining a relationship with his former wife.
Over the agony, the woman suicided, found the preliminary enquiry based on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father. Following that, Shyam Kumar was suspended and in the detailed enquiry, it was found that the woman ended her life over his false marriage promise. The report on departmental enquiry pointed out that his conduct spoils the reputation of the police force.
Considering the report, district police chief R Karuppasamy was issued the dismissal order of Shyam Kumar.
In 2017, the cop was transferred from Munnar police station over the deceased's father's complaint.
