Idukki: In a protest against the Kerala Forest Department's decision to reinstate officers who had allegedly accused him falsely, Sarun Saji, a tribal youth from Upputhara, issued a suicide threat on Thursday, threatening to take his own life.
Saji has climbed a jackfruit tree at the Kizhukanam Forest Station and threatened to jump from it. Saji claims that he has not received any form of justice regarding the false case imposed upon him.
The forest department had arrested Saji last September alleging he tried to sell wild meat. Adivasi organisations had come out saying it was a false case. Political parties, including CPM and CPI, had protested the action. Upon receiving information that Saji may be in possession of wild meat, officials conducted an inspection of his auto. Allegedly, forest department officials discovered approximately 2 kilograms of meat suspected to be from a sambar deer.
Saji was later released on bail. He along with his family members held a fast under a tribal organisation. Over flak, Chief Conservator of Forests (Administration) conducted an enquiry. The enquiry found that the case was fabricated, and the officials concerned were suspended. The development comes as the suspensions were revoked the other day.
