Fake WhatsApp messages on ending waitlisted tickets from July 1 irks passengers
Kannur: Messages circulating in social media of amendment in railway rules from July 1 are confirmed to be fake. The fake messages of railway rule amendments that has been spreading since 2016 are now further modified and circulated.
One of the fake notification that is doing the rounds is the abolition of waiting list system. The passengers who have booked tickets for journeys after July 1 keep flocking to the stations with queries like whether they should cancel the tickets in waiting list. People also contact the Division Headquarters for clearing doubts in this regard.
Another fake message is the refund of Tatkal ticket if cancelled. One of the major 10 fake notifications include change in Tatkal timing and stopping of premium trains.
It was in May – June 2016 that fake messages started circulating on social media. About 15 amendments in railway rules were included in it namely modification in refund rules and non-availability of waiting list tickets through counters.
The same WhatsApp messages were spread again in 2017 misleading the passengers. Finally, the railway issued a press release confirming that messages are false. The fake messages presently being circulated are slightly changed version of the old messages.
The Railway authorities clarified that information spread through social media messages are false. Many people contact the railway enquiry to know about waiting list system from July 1.
In case of any changes, the Railway will inform the passengers through official methods. The passengers who reserve tickets will be notified through SMS alert, the authorities said.
