Fake news on Tsunami in Kollam: District collector warns of stringent action
Kollam: At a time when Kerala is bearing the brunt of heavy rains, floods and landslides, a few people are spreading fake news on Tsunami warning in Kollam to create panic among the public.
A fake news is being circulated on social media alerting that there are chances for Tsunami in the coastal areas of Kollam district. The fake messages also state that the situation is similar to Cyclone Ockhi.
Alarmingly this fake news is being circulated in the name of government departments like Public Relations and Fisheries, through WhatsApp and Facebook mostly.
Observing this, Kollam district Collector took to his Facebook page and warned that stringent action will be taken against those spreading such fake news.
The Collector informed that the City Police Commissioner has been directed to take action against those creating such fake news.
“People are requested to follow and believe the news posted on the two official Facebook pages namely Collector Kollam and PRD Kollam,” the Collector wrote on his Facebook page.
He also asked the public to stay vigilant against such fake news and those spreading such fake information.
