Fake Ivory trade: Police nab 8 including Malayalis in Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal: The Forest Department nabbed eight people, including Malayalis, while trying to sell ivory here on Monday. The officials seized three ivories, a locally made gun, and cars with Kerala and Karnataka registrations.
Subsequent inspections revealed that the accused were trying to sell fake ivories. At the same time, one of the accused absconded just before the officials could arrest him.

The accused in police custody are identified as Sibin Thomas(26), a Thrissur native, Abdul Rasheed(47), a Malappuram native, Rajakumar(29), Prabhakaran(40), Joseph Xavier(40), Chandran(40), Prakash(24), and Ayyapan(56).

The group was arrested from a private lodge at Palamalai near Kodaikanal.

The raid was conducted by the intelligence wing of the forest department after vehicles with Kerala registration were found roaming in the area. It was also revealed that the ivories were brought to Kodaikanal by a group from Madurai. Police reported that the Malayalis arrived at Kodaikanal to buy ivories from this group.
