Fake documents against Cardinal Alencherry: Fr Tony Kallookkaran named as accused
Kochi: The police have named Fr Tony Kallookkaran as an accused in the case pertaining to forging documents against Major Archbishop Cardinal George Alencherry of the Syro-Malabar Church.
Fr Tony Kallookkaran, vicar of St Joseph's Church at Sanjo Nagar, Muringoor, is the 4th accused in the case. In this regard, the police have submitted a report to the Thrikkakkara magistrate court. Fr Tony Kallookkaran is absconding.
Police named Fr Tony Kallookkaran, former associate vicar of Konthuruthy church, as an accused in the case based on the statements of Adithyan, who forged the documents against Cardinal Alencherry. A native of Thevara in Ernakulam, Adithyan is a member of the Konthuruthy church.
Meanwhile, Fr Tony Kallookkaran’s advocate has approached the court seeking anticipatory bail. Police have submitted a request in the court seeking three-day custody of third accused Adityan who was arrested earlier. The report also mentions Fr Tony being named the fourth accused in the case.
Earlier, the Thrikkakkara magistrate court had directed for an inquiry against Cardinal Alencherry over land deals of the church. The inquiry was stayed by the Ernakulam sessions court.
Police assume that large scale conspiracy occurred against Cardinal Mar George Alencherry. Police have found that fake documents were created as part of this and the accused includes priests.
Police have confirmed that the documents were forged with the help of Adithyan to trap the Cardinal. Police have informed that more priests will be questioned in connection with the case.
