Balussery: City Gas scheme in Kozhikode is getting a facelift as GAIL’s major outlet at Unnikulam will become operational from Friday. It will receive gas from Mengaluru-Kochi pipeline. Adani Gas who has the contract for the City Gas project here claimed that once pipelining is completed, the distribution to houses will begin.

In the first phase, 1.200 households in Unnikulam panchayat are expected to get the service. The pipelining to major roads is almost completed. Adani Gas is now receiving applications from the households and laying pipes to the houses.

With the coming of outlets in Unnikulam, the supply shortage faced by CNG vehicle users in the region is also expected to be resolved. At present there are only ten CNG stations in the district. The plan is to increase the number by launching ten more stations.

Following the completion of the first phase, the scheme will be extended to panchayats of Balussery and Panangad. The pipelining in the 24 km stretch between Unnikulam and Kunnamangalam is completed. The pipelining of the entire 42 km stretch is expected to complete within 2023 October. The project will be commissioned after that.
