Kozhikode: The Crime Branch DySP on Thursday submitted an investigation report in connection with the Facebook post by a crime branch official against the city police commissioner regarding the violance during the hartal announced by Sabarimala Karma Samiti. The Report has been submitted to the Crime Branch SP.
It was crime branch official Umesh Vallikkunnu, who wrote a Facebook post criticising the flaws that occurred while handling the violence in Kozhikode during the hartal. As the investigation was ongoing, the home ministry had transferred city police commissioner Kaliraj Maheshkumar IPS.
K Sanjay Kumar Gurudhin IPS, who was working as the DIG at police headquarters, was posted as the new city police commissioner.
There were talks among members of the force that measures taken to tackle hartal violence had several flaws. Considering this, though there would be action against Umesh, it would not be serious; it is learnt.
Based on the report, there will be further action in the coming days. Since it was a crime branch official who posted the issue on social media, the crime branch SP has to take action.
During the hartal, though DYFI activists and traders nabbed a hartal supporter who pelted stones at a shop and handed him over to the police, the police later let him go without registering a case. This incident also attracted huge criticism against the force.
