Thiruvananthapuram: Poet Puthussery Ramachandran has been selected for this year's Ezhuthachan Award. Minister for Cultural Affairs K C Joseph said that Puthussery was selected for the award considering his overall contributions to Malayalam language.

The award, comprising a purse of Rs 1.5 lakh, is the biggest literary prize given by the State government.

Puthussery has translated several poems in English, Sanskrit, and Tamil languages to Malayalam. He received the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award in 2005 and Kerala Sahithya Akademi fellowship in 2009. He has also received Vallathol Award, Mahakavi P Award, Ulloor Award, Kannassa memorial award, Kumaranasan Award, and Abu Dhabi Shakthi Award.
