Palakkad: A preliminary estimate indicates that the expenses of the rescue mission of Babu, who fell into the crevices of Koormbachimala in Cheradu, will exceed Rs 50 lakh.
The State Disaster Management Authority calculated the expense by considering the money spent for the helicopters of the coast guard and Air Force along with the other rescue operators. However, a final estimate will be inferred only after receiving the bills from all departments.
Seeks explanation from district fire officer
The district fire officer was accused of serious lapses in the procedures of the rescue mission. The Director-General of Fire and Rescue Services sought an explanation from the district fire officer VK Ritheej on this.
The Director-General found that the district fire officer failed in passing the information of the youth trapped in the crevices of the hill to the higher officials including the state control room, headquarters, director-general and technical director on time.
