Expats continue to struggle at Karipur airport due to delay in procedures
Kozhikode: As more chartered flights are landing at Karipur international airport, the expats who are repatriated amid the COVID-19 outbreak are having a tough time due to the shortage of airport staff. It is learned that the returnees are forced to wait at the airport for 10 to 12 hours to complete the procedures related to COVID-19 test. All expats who landed in Karipur airport reported that everyone experienced the issue.
On the other day, passengers including women, children and patients were stuck at the airport without drinking water for over 12 hours.
Most of the passengers alleged that the airport staff did not take any interest to ensure their welfare while making them wait for the medical test.
Responding to the issue, the airport authority stated that they lack sufficient staff to deal with the passengers.
Though even teachers are deployed for the COVID-19 duty at the airport, the tests are delayed. On the other day, rapid tests were conducted at four counters.
If the passenger tests negative in the rapid test, he or she will be asked to observe home quarantine. The officials on duty at the airport claimed that the procedures are delayed as institutional quarantine facility is not available as per demand.
Recently, the district authority faced criticism after many expats got stuck in Kozhikode town expecting quarantine facility.
