Expatriate’s suicide in Punalur; AIYF leader arrested
Punalur: An AIYF leader was arrested in connection with the incident in which an expatriate allegedly committed suicide after AIYF workers stopped the construction of his workshop by flag-planting. Kunnikkod Mandalam President M. S. Gireesh was arrested by the police.
Aikkarakkonam native Sugathan (64) had committed suicide the other day. He was emotionally upset after a group of AIYF workers planted flags in front of his workshop and stopped its construction. This is allegedly the reason for Sugathan hanging himself to death. Gireesh led the flag planting in front of Sugathan’s workshop. Two AIYF workers have went in hiding in connection with the case.
Sugathan had been working in Muscat for many years, and had come back only 2 months ago. Later, he decided to set up a garage in his native place. He found a plot in Elambal in Vilakkudi and started building the workshop. But CPI and AIYF workers blocked the construction and planted flags in the plot. They had warned Sugathan that the plot was a paddy field in the past, so they would not allow any construction there. Sugathan’s sons had given statement to the police that he committed suicide due to the incident.
