Expat swallows gold worth Rs 42 lakh; police catch him after he escapes customs checking in Karipur

Malappuram: Police arrested a man for allegedly smuggling gold through the Karipur airport on Wednesday. Rasak, the accused, transported gold from Dubai in the form of capsules by swallowing them. According to a report, the gold that was captured from Rasak costs around Rs 42 lakh on the international market.

The man reached the airport at 8 am on the Air India Express flight. He was taken into custody while leaving in a car, after the customs check.

Police took him into custody based on the information Malappuram district police chief S Sujith Das received.

Rasakh did not confess during the initial interrogation after which the police conducted a detailed inspection of his body and luggage. The police did not find anything in the examination, so the man was taken to a private hospital. The gold inside his stomach was found in the x-ray, police said.
