Thiruvananthapuram: The enforcement wing of the excise department nabbed four youths, who carried nearly 100 kilogram of cannabis in a car, at Kannettumukku in Thiruvananthapuram. Cannabis was kept in 48 different packets inside the car.
The suspects were identified as Karumam natives Ratheesh, Vishnu, Akhil and Thiruvallam native Ratheesh. A woman in the gang fled from the scene after seeing the excise team.
The excise officials chased and arrested the accused while they were smuggling cannabis from Andhra Pradesh in a rented car. According to reports, the accused are involved in many other criminal cases.
The accused had taken an Innova car for rent in the guise of an all Kerala trip. When the vehicle owner checked the GPS location of the car, he found that the car was in Andhra Pradesh. An excise team started following the car on Sunday morning as soon as the car crossed the border and stopped the suspects at Kannettumukku.
Though the suspects attempted to escape from the spot, the officials nabbed three of them. The fourth person was chased and caught by the locals. Meanwhile, a woman, who was also in the car, managed to escape. The excise officials have launched a search to find her.
