Excise department fears reselling of liquor


Although, it was announced that tokens can be availed via SMS, it has not been implemented. So only those people who have android supported smart phones are able to get e- tokens currently.

Kochi: Excise department is cautious of illegal liquor sales as app-based liquor sale began in the state. The possibility for this has come up as a large number of people cannot avail e- tokens through BevQ app.

Although, it was announced that tokens can be availed via SMS, it has not been implemented. So only those people who have android supported smart phones are able to get e- tokens currently. Excise department has observed that certain people are trying to resell the liquor they obtain via the app to these people.

Excise department fears that those who have money in hand will buy more number of liquor bottles and stock it up. Later they will distribute it to those in demand at a higher rate. One person can obtain up to three litres of liquor in one go every five days through the app. By reselling it, they can get double the profit. Excise has been informed that many bars in the state have sold liquor to people without e- tokens.
