Excess alcohol consumption kills one in Thrissur; 2 under treatment
Cherpu: A man died and two others are undergoing treatment after consuming excess amount of alcohol here in Thrissur district on Tuesday. Another man who was admitted for treatment along with the three has been reported missing from the hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Sukumaran (64), a native of Arattupuzha. His friends Jayan and Peethambaran and Arjun were first admitted to the Thrissur Taluk Hospital.
Peethambaran and Arjun were later shifted to the District Government Medical College Hospital and their condition is improving. However, Jayan who was at the taluk hospital later went missing, said police.
According to police, the four friends got together to drink at Jayan’s house on Tuesday morning and continued drinking till evening. While consuming alcohol, Sukumaran died by 4 pm. The four men consumed two bottles of low quality liquor and five bottles of beer. The alcohol was bought from a beverages corporation outlet at Vallachira.
It is assumed that Sukumaran, who had health issues, died after consuming liquor in large quantity. Sukumaran is survived by wife Kochammini. The Cherppu police and excise team held inquiries.
