Ex-panchayat officials will also be held accountable in Mardu flat issue
Kochi: Ex-panchayat officials too will be held accountable for the lapses that happened in connection with the building of Maradu flats. The panchayat ruling committee had unanimously passed a bill in 2006, granting builders permission for the construction of flats. Mathrubhumi News has secured the minutes of the meeting.
The bill said that the construction of the flats should not be impeded by the coastal regulation zone act. The bill was supported by the ruling and opposition parties alike.
The crime branch had arrested the then Panchayat secretary Mohammammad Ashraf, who had granted permission based on the bill passed by the Panchayat ruling committee. But it has been found that the working committee members had urged the secretary to grant permission to the bill. So the members who had signed the bill will also be held accountable.
