Alappuzha: SNDP has declared that they have no plans to join hands with Muslim League in protesting against the implementation of 10% reservation for the economically backward sections (EWS)among forward communities in government jobs and educational institutions in the state. Though SNDP and Muslim League oppose the EWS reservation, SNDP has disagreement with most of the stances taken by the Muslim League. SNDP also believes that the Muslim League gets more preference in UDF.
Earlier, Vellappally Natesan had criticised the appointment of Dr PM Mubarak Pasha as the vice-chancellor of Sree Narayana Guru Open University. Following this, the mouthpiece of Muslim League had strongly condemned Vellappally’s stand. It was alleged that Vellappally’s remark on Mubarak revealed his Sangh Parivar attitude towards the minority.
Talking to Mathrubhumi, Vellappally declared that SNDP is not planning to cooperate with Muslim League in protests against EWS reservation.
“Through media, I came to know about the meetings of various Muslim associations to protest against EWS reservation. Muslim outfits are also disappointed over raising the legal age of women for marriage. This matter is not listed in the agenda of SNDP,” said Vellappally.
“We don’t oppose granting 10 percent reservation to economically backward people in the forward castes, from the seats allotted for general merit. From the Chief Minister’s statement, I think the government planned for it. But organisations like Muslim League argue that 10 percent seats out of total seats will be granted to forward castes. More clarity should be made on this matter,” he added.
SNDP will oppose the reservation if the government plans to give 10 percent from the total capacity. If the seats allotted to the backward community are not be affected with it, we will not stage protest,” pointed out the SNDP general secretary.
At the same time, he expressed his disapproval over opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and UDF convenor MM Hassan for not declaring their stance on the matter.
