Temple to build house for 20 homeless people by avoiding festival celebrations

Poothotta (Ernakulam): Sree Narayana Vallabha Temple in Ernakulam’s Poothotta has decided to construct houses for 20 homeless people by utilizing money supposed to be spent for festival celebrations. Each year it costs around Rs 60 lakhs to organize the temple festival. The plan is to allocate this money and other allied savings by avoiding cultural events and shows that are organized every year. Apart from that the temple administration will also accept donations for the cause.

The homes will be built for those individuals under the SNDP Branch of the temple who are homeless but have land of atleast three cents. Each house will be of 450 sqft and will cost around Rs 6.5 lakhs.

The construction of 20 homes is expected to be completed within two years, informed SNDP Branch president EN Maniyappan. In the first phase 10 houses will be constructed and handed over.
