Man killed after areca nut tree falls on him

Paravur: In a cruel twist of fate, a man who had a narrow escape from the banyan tree uprooting lost his life after an areca nut tree fell on him. The deceased is identified as Rajan(60) a native of Cheriyapallamthuruth in Ernakulam’s North Paravur.

The incident happened on Friday while Rajan was chopping the Arecanut tree at his ancestral home along with his relative. The tree fell on his body while pulling the rope which used for slanting it. Though Rajan was rushed to hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Rajan was a lottery ticket seller for more than 25 years. He used to sell the tickets under the historic banyan tree known by the name ‘Namboorichan Aal’. He had a narrow escape when this tree uprooted nine months back.
