Kochi: Instead of attending the 'People’s Resistance Rally' led by CPM State Secretary M V Govindan, LDF Convener E.P Jayarajan attended a function honouring the mother of controversial industrialist Dallal Nandakumar in Kannur on Sunday.

He took part in the event a day before the CPM rally was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister in Kasaragod. However, Jayarajan was also missing from the rally when it reached Kannur. His absence has further opened up a debate over ongoing differences with party leadership.

On Sunday, Jayarajan attended the function organised by Nandakumar as part of a temple festival in Vennala. Following this, the photos of Jayarajan attending the event went viral on social media.

Further, KV Thomas, former Congress veteran and representative of the LDF government in Delhi, also attended the event alongside Jayarajan.

Dallal Nandakumar, a controversial figure, has placed CPM under immense pressure on various issues, including the Lavelin case, Kundara Bomb Case and Vizhinjam port, among others. Nandakumar reacted that Jayarajan only paid a surprise visit to the event and was not an invitee.

Meanwhile, MV Govindan responded that he had no information about Jayarajan attending the event.
