Raj Kabeer's furniture store, Latest notice issued by Thalassery municipality

Kannur: An entrepreneur couple absconded after Thalassery municipality sealed their furniture store. A furniture store owner Raj Kabeer and his wife have left their native by leaving a letter detailing the reason behind the escape. Raj Kabeer is the son of the writer K Thayat.

The municipality had sealed Raj Kabeer’s furniture store citing that he had been using the land under the ownership of the municipality for the store. The authorities had sent a notice informing him to pay a fine of Rs 4.17 lakh. When Raj Kabeer approached the High Court, the court ordered him to pay Rs 41,600. Raj Kabeer alleged that when he reached the municipality for paying the fine amount, the officials did not receive the fine and asked him to pay it via the "official channel" due to the court order.

According to the letter written by the couple, they absconded after being depressed with the attitude of the officials.

In the letter, Raj Kabeer accused the municipality of attempting to close his store forever and noted that the municipality officials were responsible for his absconding. He also alleged that the officials intended to hand over the shop to someone else after evicting him.

Meanwhile, the municipality officials claimed that they have no personal vendetta with Raj Kabeer. Following the absconding of Raj Kabeer and his wife, the officials have initiated proceedings to reopen the store. However, the store cannot be opened without the presence of Raj Kabeer, informed the officials.
