CBI probe against Chief IT Commissioner Anil Goel


The CBI raided Anil’s residence in Delhi and Mumbai and seized documents related to accumulation of disproportionate assets worth Rs 30 crore. The agency has found that Anil is involved in several cases of bribery including the Ettumanoor case.

Kochi: The CBI has initiated an investigation against the Chief Income Tax Commissioner Anil Goel following complaints of the officer acquiring disproportionate assets.

The CBI raided Anil’s residence in Delhi and Mumbai and seized documents related to accumulation of disproportionate assets worth Rs 30 crore. The agency has found that Anil is involved in several cases of bribery including the Ettumanoor case.

The CBI on Thursday had nabbed five including Income Tax Principal Commissioner Sailendra Mamidi for accepting Rs 10 lakh as bribe from the owner of a jewellery in Ettumanoor for settling the income tax arrears. IT officer Sarath, chartered accountant M K Kuruvila, jewellery owner joy Thomas and middlemen Mathew Alex, who works in the construction sector were also picked up. On interrogation, CBI found the involvement of Anil.

Kumar, who was interrogated by the CBI in connection with the case, committed suicide on Thursday evening. CBI sources say the Rs11 lakh seized from Kumar’s house was given to Sarath for handing over to Goel. They say Kumar was serving as the benami of Sarath.

The CBI sources said a detailed investigation has been launched into the complaints of rampant corruption in Income tax department and added that the raids would be continued on Friday.
