Iritty: The workers of Aralam Farm began an indefinite strike on Monday demanding wage hike and related benefits. The workers demanded wages on par with that to the labourers of other government farms in the state. The trade union leaders informed in a press release that though they had held discussons with the chief minister and other ministers, the workers are being cheated for over 5 years.
Trade unions affiliated to the CITU, INTUC and the AITUC have decided to strike work raising the demands.
The workers decided to hold an indefinite strike after talks held previously, promising that the next cabinet meeting would take a decision, ended inconclusive. Earlier, the workers were offered Rs 2,000 as interim relief after a few rounds of discussions with Agriculture Minister in 2014. The workers are still getting the wages that they were offered in 2004 though the government had taken over the farm.
Earlier, the joint trade union had conducted various protests raising the same issue.
