Rescuers with Sabari's body
Thiruvananthapuram: An engineering student drowned here in the Vamanapuram river. Kizhakkekotta native Sabari (21), a student at Muslim Association College of Engineering in Venjarammoodu, was identified as the deceased. Three students from the college went to the river for bathing. Sabari got lost in the currents while they were bathing near the Venjarammoodu side of the river.
Venjarammoodu fire force team arrived at the scene after being called up by the locals and started the rescue mission. Sabari’s body was recovered from a bamboo thicket almost 30 feet below the surface of the river. The currents were very strong in the river. The accident happened at around 1.30 pm.
The body was taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Locals said that it is very common for students to come and take a dip in the river every now and then.
