Thiruvananthapuram: Fisherfolk in Puthiyathura in Vizhinjam rescued a huge Whale Shark trapped in a fishing net on Thursday noon. They cut the fishing net and helped the shark return to the deep sea.

Though the fishermen pushed the shark which was stuck near the beach into the sea, the attempt failed initially as the head of the shark was towards the land. Later, some of the fishermen tied a rope on its tail and pulled the shark to sea by attaching the rope to a boat.

Later, the shark swam towards the land again but returned to the deep sea soon.

The carcass of a whale shark was spotted last year on the same beach.

As the presence of the Whale Shark was often spotted in this region, the authorities have provided awareness among the fisherfolk regarding this endangered species of shark.
