Enathu: The renovated Enathu bridge would bring to an end the traffic menace on MC Road. The final works still remain and would be opened for traffic on August 31.
Two piers of the bridge were reconstructed after detecting a damage on it. Tarring on road was also completed on Saturday.
Tarring work on the 50-meter stretch of road on both sides of the bridge have been completed. Cables under the bridge have been shifted to the footpath and covered with tiles.
Painting work is in progress at the newly constructed bridge and will be completed on August 27. Along with reconstructing the damaged piers, the foundation of other piers were repaired.
The 18-year-old bridge was closed from January 10 following detection of damage in its two piers. Traffic menace increased in MC road since the last 7 months.
Though the army constructed the bailey bridge for small vehicles, vehicle movement was always disrupted due to long traffic snarls.
Minister for Public Works G Sudhakaran will inaugurate the bridge on August 31. The bridge will be reopened for big vehicles after the inauguration.
