Thiruvananthapuram: A huge protest was staged by Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees against their Managing Director Biju Prabhakar, over his remarks against them.
A protest march led by TDF, a part of Congress’ INTUC, was taken out to the KSRTC chief office in Kizhakkekotta from Thampanoor. When police stopped the march a sit-in protest was staged in front of the office. The protestors demanded a public apology from Biju Prabhakar.
Addressing the media here, Prabhakar had said that the workers have been opposing fuel conversion to CNG from diesel as misappropriation will then be cut off. He alleged that workers were not properly attending offices and instead of working for KSRTC many have been pursuing farming and real estate businesses.
Many permanent employees of KSRTC are not working properly and instead they are doing ginger and turmeric farming. Many depots are managed by temporary employees, the KSRTC MD had stated.
TDF state president Sasidharan said that if money was lost from KSRTC, it should be found through investigation. KSRTC is our daily bread. Poisoning it will not be allowed at any cost, he added.
He also alleged corruption in leasing out KSRTC land in Ernakulam. A protest will be staged in all KSRTC units in the state under TDF on Monday, he further added.
