Elephant dies of dehydration in Sirumugai forest range
Coimbatore: A 20-year-old female elephant died due to suspected dehydration in Sirumugai forest range in the district.
The carcass was found by the villagers on Tuesday, who informed the police and forest officials.
Officials suspect dehydration and starvation to be the cause for the death of the animal, as almost all water bodies in the forest region have dried up.
Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve Veterinary Doctor K Ashokan conducted the post-mortem. The carcass was buried on the spot.
According to the post-mortem report, there were no remains of food in its body. The body parts have been sent to laboratory for further examination. The cause of death can be ascertained only then.
