Thrissur: A man was killed after being stamped by an elephant during a housewarming function in Thrissur. Kannur native Babu was killed by the famed elephant of Kerala Thechikkottukavu Ramachandran when it ran amok. 8 other persons were injured in the incident.
The elephant that was brought for the housewarming function and temple festival, ran amok after crackers were burst from the nearby yard. While running it stamped Babu, who had come to attend the function and he died on the spot.
The incident took place at Kottappadi in Guruvayur here. The elephant was brought for the ‘Ezhunallippu’ ritual at the temple which was on the same day of the housewarming. The same family whose housewarming it was, had brought the elephant for the festival.
In the stampede that took place after the jumbo ran amok, eight persons were also injured. Two of them were percussion artists who came for the festival. The injured have bene admitted to a private hospital in Kunnamkulam.
Ramachandran belongs to the Thechikkottukavu temple at Peramangalam in Thrissur. It is the tallest living elephant in Kerala and is over 50 years old.
