300 lost lives: KSEB to construct memorial for employees killed on duty

Thiruvananthapuram: The KSEB has decided to construct a memorial for its employees who lost their lives in the line of duty. The names of the deceased will be imprinted on a memorial stone or statue in the KSEB headquarters. Data shows around 300 individuals have lost their lives while involved in various kinds of electric works.

Remembrance meetings will be held on national Martyrs’ Day on January 30. The board has also given the authority to Chief Engineer to sanction up to Rs 1 lakh for emergency treatment of individuals who suffer work-related accidents.

If the employee dies by accident, either the Director or the Chief Engineer should represent the board to offer posthumous honour. The board Chairman Dr B Ashok has directed the officials to deliver the post-death allowances to the houses of the deceased.

In the wake of the death of a lineman in Kattappana due to electric shock, the board has decided to ramp up the training of employees in safety and precautionary measures.
