Election postponed as government finds it hard to step out and face public, alleges K Surendran
Thiruvananthapuram: BJP state president K Surendran alleged that COVID-19 is being used as an excuse to postpone the election as the government and the opposition find it hard to face the public. Postponement of the election is a political necessity for the government and the opposition. He also added that the decision to hold an all-party meeting was taken only after the government and the opposition came into an understanding of the issue prior to the meeting. The BJP state president was speaking at a press conference here.
BJP has maintained its position from the beginning that conducting the bypolls in Chavara and Kuttanad constituencies is impractical. However, BJP also believes that the local self-government polls should not be postponed due to this. Surendran pointed out that the Election Commission of India may also arrive at the same conclusion.
The government is not in a position to step out and face the public presently. The opposition is also in a similar condition due to the fights within their party, he alleged.
Surendran also asked, why election is being postponed at a time when everything else is opening up.
