Election Commission seeks report on complaint against Kasaragod Collector


New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has sought a report from the state government on the complaint filed against Kasaragod Collector Dr D Sajith Babu. The complaint was filed against Babu alleging he didn’t take action against Uduma MLA K Kunjiraman after he threatened the presiding officer during the local body elections.

State government has been directed to file an immediate report. Further action will be taken based on the report, said sources close to Election Commission.

A complaint on another district Collector in Malabar questioning if election can be conducted fairly due to his political affiliation is also under the consideration of EC.

Presiding officer at polling booth in Alakkod GLP School Dr KM Sreekumar had filed the complaint against the MLA along with the visuals proving the latter threatening him. The state electoral officer had sought report from Babu on the complaint. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India received the complaint that the Collector’s approach was biased. Following this EC sought report from state.

The other complaint stated that a Collector in Malabar region was active in campus politics and his actions during the local body election was suspicious. However, no decision has been taken on the complaint, sources revealed.
