Balaramapuram: An elderly woman was found dead inside the bathroom of her residence at Mangalathukonam in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday morning. The deceased 71-year-old Shyamala had sustained multiple stab wounds on her neck, which resulted in her death due to excessive bleeding.
Shyamala had only arrived at VS Bhavan in Mangalathukonam 10 days prior, along with her son Binu and his family. Binu, who works abroad, would visit Mangalathukonam every year during the festival of a nearby temple and stay with his family.
Shyamala's body was found by her daughter-in-law, Sajitha, who was looking for her to offer tea. The family immediately sought help from their neighbours and contacted the police. Upon examination of the deep wounds on Shyamala's neck, the police have registered a case of unnatural death.
Police recovered a blood-stained knife and scissors from the house. Following this, the investigating team interrogated Binu, Sajitha and their younger son Ananthu, who were in the house when the incident happened. The couple’s elder son Nandu is currently abroad.
Police said further details regarding the incident can be revealed only after obtaining the autopsy report.
