When police brought Mohanan to collect evidence
Kollam: Police booked a suspect in connection with the death of a woman, who was residing alone in a house at Vilakkupara in Kollam. The accused Mohanan (60) was arrested after he confessed to the crime during a detailed interrogation.
The body of the woman was found in her bedroom on February 26, 2022 evening. In the preliminary investigation itself, police inferred the death was a murder. The autopsy report revealed that she was strangled to death amid a sexual assault. Bones in the neck were broken and there were injuries on the chest, stomach, and lips of the lady.
Hundreds of locals were interrogated during the investigation that was proceeding under Punaloor DySP B Vinod. Some of them were taken under custody and 15 DNA samples were collected and sent for examination.
Mohanan was also quizzed three times within the past 6 months. The constant surveillance of the police and Mohanan’s statements after consuming alcohol had placed him under suspicion.
Following the arrest, the accused was taken to the crime spot on Saturday to collect evidence.
