Swapna Suresh, Shaj Kiran
Kochi: The investigating agencies in the controversial gold smuggling case, including the Enforcement Directorate and the Customs, move cautiously with the recent statements of accused Swapna Suresh.
The agencies have received the legal advice to seek a copy of the statement made by Swapna Suresh under CrPC section 164 with the court.
Sources suggest that Swapna may be made an approver. Her statement will be crucial in this. The agencies will discuss it with her.
The further probe in the case may have to include CM Pinarayi Vijayan and his family within the ambit as Swapna has reiterated the allegations made by her co-accused Sarith that CM has smuggled dollars.
Meanwhile, the state vigilance may question Shaj Kiran and Ibrahim.
Swapna had said that Shaj told her that CM and CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan laundered money through Believers Church. The Vigilance probe is over the alleged conspiracy behind the recent statements of Swapna. She has alleged that Shaj threatened her to back off from the comments made against CM.
The Vigilance has asked Shaj and Ibrahim to appear for questioning. They reportedly have told the agency that they are in Chennai and will return in two days.
