EC to announce Assembly polls dates today at 4.30 pm

Thiruvananthapuram: The Election commission of India will declare the dates of Assembly elections in the five states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry on Friday.

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora will address a press meet at 4.30 pm in this regard.

ECI's Model Code of Conduct will come into force today once the poll dates are declared.

It is expected that the polls in Kerala will be conducted in two phases. The election procedures in state is likely to be completed by April 30. The political parties had requested the EC to complete the elections by the second week of April in view of Vishu and Easter festivals.

The numbers of polling booths are likely to increase owing to the current pandemic situation.
The terms of the legislative assemblies of five poll-bound states -- West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry will come to an end either in May or in June this year.
