Kannur: DYFI state joint secretary and central committee member M Shajar has been facing flak after a photo featuring him with Akash Thillenkeri came out. Akash Thillenkeri was a former CPM activist who was disowned by the party over alleged links with quotation gangs and smuggling rackets. In the pic, the DYFI leader was seen presenting a trophy to Thillenkeri during a function of a CAG club in Vanjeri. He was the team manager of the CAG Club cricket team that won the Thillenkeri premier cricket tournament, held a few days back.
Two years ago, Shajar ridiculed Thillenkeri and others during a public meeting as part of DYFI district committees' drive against drug-quotation gangs in the area. The speech escalated into war-of-words between Thillenkeri and DYFI on social media.
When the situation escalated, CPM district secretary MV Jayarajan issued a warning against Thillenkeri and stated that people with such background would not be allowed to be part of the party or related organisations.
CPM Thillaenkeri local committee called for an inquiry to examine the recent development.
