CM, 17 ministers to go on foreign trip from Oct 18 to raise funds for rebuilding Kerala

Dubai: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and 17 ministers are planning to visit foreign countries to raise funds for rebuilding Kerala after the flood havoc. Each minister will visit countries where Malayali population is high.

The journeys seeking help of the NRIs are scheduled from October 18 to 21. The ministers will be accompanied by the secretaries or higher officials of the concerned departments. Consequently, majority of the ministers in the cabinet will be absent in the state in the week.

Only health minister K. K. Shailaja, education minister C. Raveendranath and forest minister K. Raju are excluded from the list for foreign trip. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will visit Abu Dhabi on October 18, Dubai on 19 and Sharjah on 20. Principal secretary Dr. K Elangovan will accompany the chief minister.

Finance minister Dr Thomas Issac will visit New York, Boston and Chicago in America on October 20 and 21 along with KSFE managing director Purushothaman. Industrial minister E. P. Jayarajan will go to Kuwait on October 20 accompanied by secretary of industries Sanjay Kaul.

Earlier, when minister K. Raju went to inaugurate World Malayali Council Global Meet in Germany it stirred up a huge controversy. It is not yet clarified whether the three ministers, including Raju, will set out for the foreign trip.

The journeys and programmes are charted considering the weekend holidays in each country. NORKA members and World Kerala Assembly members in the countries are arranging the programmes.
