Kochi: Drunken driving remains a constant headache for police in Kochi despite increase in rapid inspections and rigorous surveillance.

235 people were caught for drunken driving in surprise vehicle inspections on Saturday night and Sunday morning. In the past three weekends, police have conducted similar operations to nab violators. Despite measures, drunken driving continues to be a persistent problem in Kochi.

On Saturday, 412 cases were registered in Kochi alone. Of this, 235 were booked for drunken driving and 36 for drug-related incidents. A few days back, 43 people were booked for alleged links with goons.

Police officials said the department would recommend suspending the licence of those nabbed for drunk driving.
