Kochi: In a disturbing incident, a man attacked his seven-month-old baby at Thiruvankulam, here in Thrippunithura on Friday.

The injured baby has been shifted to the Thrippunithura Government Taluk Hospital following the intervention of the Child Protection Committee (CPC). Police have taken the baby’s father Anand into custody.

The baby’s mother said that Anand came home in an inebriated condition and tried to throw the child away. The woman also said that the child would have been badly injured had she not intervened.

The woman alleged that Anand would come home drunk and attack her and the child on a regular basis. She did not file a complaint as she was afraid.

There are injury and burn marks on the baby’s body. Reports from the hospital said that the injuries are not serious.

The Child Protection Committee has temporarily taken the custody of the child. CPC members added that they would take custody of the mother and child if necessary.
